The use of Authentix Molecular recognition Markers to protect spirits from being counterfeited is discussed in the December 22, 2005, issue of Brand Protection News. In the article, “Shaken Not Stirred: Brand Owners are Fighting the Growing Trend in Counterfeit Spirits with Renewed Vigor,” Authentix’ proproetary colorless, tasteless, food-grade markers are highlighted as a simple and effective way that spirits can be authenticated by non-technical personnel in the field.
The article states that the distilled spirits industry loses at least €422 million (the equivalent of $514 million) annually.
